The Gold Coast is Australia's favourite holiday playground - it's been that way since the 1950s when Surfers Paradise was established as a beachside town with a great hotel and over the last half century more and more attractions have popped up, making the region one of the most tourist-oriented in the world. We've compiled a brief guide to some of the most popular things to do on the Gold Coast,
The Gold Coast is a dedicated tourist town and there's enough things to do to keep you occupied for months. It's not just mini-golf and wax museums either; take a tour of the river and canals in an aqua-bus, head up in a hot air balloon or learn to surf:
The big four, which you've probably heard of, are Dreamworld, Sea World, Movie World and Wet'n'Wild, but there are quite a few more. Pat a koala, watch some outback horsemen and woman race around a stadium, mingle with the native birds
Weather
The Gold Coast has a comfortable, sub-tropical climate, which is enjoyable all year round. Tempratures average in the mid to high 20's all year round.
The highest rainfall is recorded during the summer months of December to February. Being sub-tropical, when it rains on the Gold Coast it's often seen that storms and clouds take a 'dump and run' approach, rather than drizzling rain all day. After the rain, any storm activity or grey skies tend to clear up quickly, and theres a fast return to sunshine.
Clothing
Sunscreen is a must, along with a hat and sunglasses for eye comfort. Lightweight clothing is most comfortable most year round with a light jacket or jumper for cooler nights.
